He co-founded XO Communications where he was Vice President of Operations and Engineering and later Vice President of International Network Development. He led dark fiber provider City Signal Communications as President and CEO and later held the role of Capture Director for specialty construction firm Henkels and McCoy, a leading DAS integrator. John joined the Safer Buildings Coalition in April of 2017, where he serves as Managing Director. John participates in the TIA Smart Buildings Working Group, Public Safety Subgroup, and the Smart Cities Council/WIA City Networks Task Force.

Chief Perdue began as a volunteer firefighter with the Pinecroft-Sedgefield fire department, progressed through the ranks and was appointed Emergency Services Director in 2003. He has served as Director at Large, Vice-Chair and Chair of the IAFC Fire & Life Safety Section, spent four terms as a member of the International Code Councils Fire Code Hearing Committee, Vice-Chair and Chairman of the North Carolina Fire Code Revision Committee, President of the North Carolina County Fire Marshal’s Association, and as an advisory board member for the Guilford Technical Community College Fire Science curriculum program.
In addition to serving as the Executive Director of the Safer Buildings Coalition, Alan serves on various committees and councils such as, the National Association of Counties (NACo) Telecommunications and Technology Policy Steering Committee, the International Accreditation Services (IAC) Technical Advisory Council for Regulatory Code Programs, Underwriters Laboratories Standard #2525 Standards Technical Panel, and The Center for Public Safety Excellence’s (CPSE) Appeals Committee. He is also an elected county Commissioner in Guilford County, NC.
Prior, Alan served as the International Director representing Fire & Life Safety on the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Board of Directors, the Governor’s fire service appointee to the North Carolina State Building Code Council, a Commissioner on the Center for Public Safety Excellence’s Commission for Professional Credentialing, a member of the International Accreditation Services Technical Advisory Committee for Fire & Life Safety Departments, and a member of the International Code and Standards Council.
After 34 years of service he retired in 2013. He is credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and Fire Marshal (FM) through the Center for Public Safety Excellence Commission for Professional Credentialing.

For nearly forty years, Jon has served Florida citizens in numerous roles such as county fire marshal, statewide leadership roles in fire service organizations, and Operations Chief in the Emergency Operations Center during the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005. Jon has testified for many years on behalf of fire safety before varying legislative committees in Florida and ran for state representative in his district in 2012. He currently serves as Government Affairs Committee Chairman for the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce and is the current Chair of the Safer Buildings Coalition Government Affairs Working Group. Jon’s leadership skills continue to excel as the Executive Director of more than 1,500 members in the Florida Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association (FFMIA), a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization with a mission of providing training and continuing education for fire inspection personnel throughout the state of Florida.

Aaron has spent over 20 years in the fire service working as a volunteer and career firefighter in West Virginia and Ohio before coming to Maryland to work in fire prevention and code enforcement. He has served as a Fire Inspector, Plans Examiner, and as the Fire Marshal for the City of Rockville. He currently works for Montgomery County, Maryland as a Fire Marshal/Plans Examiner and coordinates training on their electronic plan review and submission programs. Aaron also serves on the Maryland State Fire Code Update Committee and the Maryland State Fire Marshal Subcommittee working as part of the carbon monoxide alarm task force and the legislative affairs work group.
Aaron is an NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist and also holds NICET certificates in fire alarm. He works as an educator in emergency management, owning a consulting business based in Ohio, which reviews emergency operations plans while designing and conducting hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction exercises for first responders and the military.
